Sunday Summary & the Illuminating Blogger Award

Not much to report for the Summary this week.

On the writing front, I’ve continued to do my Morning Pages. However, the deeper I get into the revisions I’m attempting, the less patience I have in doing them. Plus side, revisions feel pretty good. I rewrote the opening scene on Friday, 1048 words, and rewrote almost three scenes Saturday, 2664 words. I know all these will need another run through but right now I’m aiming to clean up plot.

On the reading front, I have two stories to beta. Bad me, I haven’t started either. I will get them done soon, Melanie and Angela, I promise.

And I have a standing date with Doctor Who starting Saturday :D

~ * ~

The amazing Melanie Macek awarded me the Illuminating Blogger Award on the same day I awarded her the Sunshine Award and Fabulous Blog Ribbon. I swear we were channeling each other, LOL.

Something we seem to do a lot.

Thank you Mel!

Here are the rules for the award:

  • Visit the Blog who awarded you and thank them.
  • Tell everyone who nominated you, thank the blogger and include a link back to their site on your blog.
  • Share a random thing about yourself.
  • Select five or more nominees — and notify them on their blogs.
  • Put the award on your blog somewhere.

A random factoid about moi:

I won first prize in a third grade essay contest about my hometown. Even had my picture in the local paper :)

My five nominees are:

Fabio from Diamonds & Rust
Stacy from Turning the Page
Jenny from More Cowbell
Angela from In a Pursuit of Publishness
Maria from Tale of Otherworlds

They are welcome to indulge in randomness if they like :) I hope you’ll visit these bloggers and see why they are so special!

Awards, Oh My

The fabulous Brinda Berry awarded me not one but two awards. Be sure to check out her site and blog where she blogs under the tag: YA Fiction, hang on for a wild ride. If you’re looking for a summer read be sure to check out The Waiting Booth (Whispering Woods) followed by Whisper of Memory (Whispering Woods). I don’t think you’ll regret stepping into Mia’s world.

Brinda, thank you for the awards!

The Sunshine Award

Is You Are My Sunshine playing in your head? Or is that just me?

  • Favorite color: I don’t really have a favorite but I do gravitate toward greens for the house and corals for myself.
  • Favorite animal: I’m an animal lover in general. In the wild, sea otters, they are so playful. For pets, definitely dogs over cats.
  • Favorite number: I’ve got a thing for even numbers but can’t say I have a favorite.
  • Favorite drink: As much as I love my coffee, TEA.
  • Facebook/Twitter Locations: Facebook / Twitter
  • Favorite passion: Reading. I’ll read almost anything and love escaping into other worlds.
  • Giving or Receiving: Giving, definitely.
  • Favorite pattern: I have to agree with Brinda on this answer…Toile. There’s just something elegant and romantic about it to me.
  • Favorite day of the week: Sunday.
  • Favorite flower: Tiger Lily. It was my grandmother’s favorite. According to her it meant ‘wealth and pride’ and she always said we were family wealthy and country proud. I don’t know if she was right but it struck a cord that remains today.

Fabulous Blog Ribbon

Five fabulous writing moments:

  1. Having the amazing Joely Sue Burkhart take me under her wing and meet me D&E every morning.
  2. The spark of a new idea.
  3. When it all comes together, like a jigsaw puzzle not missing any pieces.
  4. When the right word comes without help from the Thesaurus.
  5. Writing “the end” on a first draft.

Five things I love about writing…

  1. Brainstorming a new idea.
  2. Characters who won’t shut up.
  3. Getting in the zone and not being able to stop.
  4. The fabulous writers I’ve meet online!
  5. Learning something new with each draft.

Five things I hate about writing…

  1. Characters who won’t shut up.
  2. Revisions.
  3. Not finding that missing piece to the jigsaw puzzle.
  4. Edits.
  5. Oh, and more edits.

I’m going to take a page out of Brinda’s book and award both the Sunshine Award and the Fabulous Blog Ribbon to five writers. And because she says it so wonderfully…

Why? Because these writers certainly spread sunshine with their words. Their blogs are wonderful, and they are Fabulous Blog Ribbon worthy. They are welcome to indulge us with answers to the questions above if they like. Please go visit these bloggers and see why they are so special!

Beautiful Blogger Award: More Randomness About Moi

The lovely and talented Melanie nominated me for this award.

Melanie Macek
May 06, 2012 @ 12:43:56 [Edit]

…Oh, I nominated you for the Beautiful Blogger award! Stop by Tuesday to get the deets.‎

Thanks so much Mel!

The rules are:

The Beautiful Blogger Award is for those blogs that are creative, original and add to the blogging community. You’re supposed to bestow it on seven people and here’s the “rules:” I say, no worries if you’re a rule-breaker, then just put the award on your blog.

  • Link to the creative, beautiful genius that bestowed it upon you.
  • List seven random things about yourself.
  • Send said award to seven (or how ever many you want) other creative, beautiful geniuses.
  • Tell those lucky people that you’ve done this and give em’ the rules.

Oh boy, more random facts to come up with, bet I make you hungry this time ;)

  1. You will never see me eat one of these —

  2. I’d much rather have this —

    Chocolate Saucepan Brownies

Maybe not the whole pan in one sitting  And because I love you guys the recipe is below.

  3. Tea, in any form, is probably my favorite drink.
  4. That’s not a cheese…

    THAT’S a cheese…

  5. This is one of my favorite dinners —

    Chicken Enchiladas

  6. BBQ is also pretty high on the ol’ list of favorites, which That Man is doing right now as I type and schedule this post. The smells drifting up to me are drool-worthy.
  7. Pie is, by far, my FAVORITE dessert. (Also on tonight’s menu…yum.)

Chocolate Saucepan Brownies

4 squares of unsweetened baker’s chocolate
2/3 cup oil
2 cups of sugar
4 eggs
1 1/3 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
2 teaspoons vanilla

Melt chocolate in saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently. Add oil. Beat in sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each one. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt, blending well. Stir in nuts and vanilla. Pour into greased 13X9 pan. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes. Cut into squares immediately. Then cool.

Since y’all are beautiful to me, tag, you’re it :D

Instead, I offer up to you, my Top 10 Sexy Men

  2. Ciara Knight
  3. Erin Brambilla
  4. Gina Carey
  5. Marcia Richards
  6. Natalie Hartford

7 X 7 Link Award

I had never given much thought to blog awards — generally feeling rewarded by the thoughtful, funny, inspirational, and just plain “hi” comments — but they are a fun way of telling a blogger they’re doing something right.

Thank you Angela Brown for awarding me the 7X7 Link Award. I’m so glad Maria Zannini pointed me in your direction!

Fellow ROW80er Angela Wallace also awarded me the 7X7 Link Award. Thank you :)

The idea behind this blog award is to celebrate blog posts that made a mark. For this award, we’re suppose categorize our blog links. Oh boy, I’m not sure this blog has been around long enough to fill the categories but I’ll give it a go.

  • Most Beautiful: I’m going to have to go with Gerard Butler on this one and Video I Love: The Scotsman Song.
  • Most Helpful: Okay, I have no clue for this one. I’ll take your votes in the comments :)
  • Most Popular: Would be Usint Tarot in Writing which comes in second only to “home page” views.
  • Most Controversial: I don’t think there is too much, yet, on my blog that I’d call controversial but I guess Class Dismissed with Maria Zannini comes close.
  • Most Successful: With the most comments, would be Campaigner Challenge 2: Shattered Image.
  • Most Underrated: Perhaps Tarot with Jenna Reynolds which I feel bad about as she’s the one who introduced me to using tarot in my writing and her class is fascinating.
  • Most Pride-worthy: That would have to be Tarot: The Hero’s Journey where the man himself, Christopher Vogler of The Writer’s Journey, stopped by my wee blog to leave a comment. :fangirl squee:

There are so many wonderful blogs with great content. So many I return to because of the blogger’s voice. It’s hard to pick seven, because so many of you deserve this accolade, but here are the ones I choose:

Versatile Blogger Award

Fellow campaigner, Miho Li, nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award.

Thank you Miho!

  1. Thank the person who gave you the award and link back to them in your post.
  2. Share 7 things about yourself.
  3. Pass this Award along to 15 recently discovered blogs and let them know about it!

(Interestingly, the rules are slightly different than last time.)

Here we go again :) me trying to come up with interesting and cool things about myself.

  1. True to my Fire Element I put a lot of stock in my gut feelings.
  2. I love a man (or two or three) in a kilt.
  3. I’m addicted to BBC America. I’ve got to have my Doctor Who, Being Human, and that British accent :)
  4. Christmas is my favorite holiday. That Man started me collecting all things Santa and they take over our house for Christmas.
  5. I’m a barefoot diva.
  6. I love muscle cars. Someday, after the wee beasties are out of the house, I’ll actually own something like this beauty…
  7. That Man and I met on a blind date, a river cruise. We went on to reserve the same boat for our wedding.

Now, to pass it on…I’m just going to highlight a few from the campaign, you can check out the other participants by click on the badge in the sidebar.

  1. Liz whose blog is full of cat antics.
  2. Julie Fedderson who begins all her posts with a song.
  3. Sheery Hall who has all kinds of cool book filled posts.
  4. Maggie Fechner who I think is spying on my crazy family with her mummy posts :)
  5. Melanie Macek who had me with the title of her blog: Feather Pens, Tartan Dreams

Versatile Blogger Award & MayNoWriMo 2011 Update

The Award

Earlier this week Erin Brambilla nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award. Wow. Thank you Erin!

Here are the rules for The Versatile Blogger Award:
1. Thank and link to the person who nominated you.
2. Share seven random facts about yourself.
3. Pass the award along to 5 new-found blogging buddies.
4. Contact the winners to congratulate them.

7 random facts about me :taps finger against chin: hmm…

  1. Your shoe size really does increase with each pregnancy. Sigh. I went from a petite 6 to an 8.
  2. I recycle everything. A very frustrating thing in Vegas where the recycling truck only comes once every two weeks yet we have twice a week garbage pick-up.
  3. I have my Aunt Gina’s original recipe for Haggis. The only problem is I don’t have 200-300 people to feed it to if I make it!
  4. I was the first child, on both sides of my family, to be born in the States.
  5. I can’t watch TV without something to do in my hands. Cross-stitching usually but I’d like to get back into knitting.
  6. Living in Vegas is the furthermost I’ve ever lived from an ocean.
  7. I love to bake. Can someone wave the magic no calories wand so I can actually enjoy what I bake? Please. Pie trumps cake any day of the week! (And yes, Erin, I think a pie post on National Pie Day is in order.)

My nominations for The Versatile Blogger Award go to…

  • Book-Wrym-Knits — I first met Nicole through our mutual friend Joely Sue Burkhart. Knitter extraordinaire, Nicole makes me wish I wore socks! She’s @ca_bookwyrm on Twitter.
  • DB Smyth — Deborah offers up thought-provoking blog posts. She even has a cool “I am a writer” button for anyone who needs the extra kick in the pants. She’s @DB_Smyth on Twitter.
  • Tiffany A White — Tiffany is a friendly member of Kristen Lamb’s #MyWANA Twibe.  If you’re ever in question about what to watch be sure to check out her Tele-Tuesday posts, she’s got y’all covered. You can find her on Twitter as @Tiffany_A_White.
  • Stazia Charles — I met Stazia through Twitter (@StaziaCharles), she’s fun and friendly and I’ve recently started reading her blog.
  • SynTAROTis — I met Martie through Twitter (@SynTAROTis) and love the spreads and insight.

The Update

I joined Joely Sue Burkhart’s writing challenge in the hopes of finishing the first pass of revisions on my WiP.

Forth weekly update…not bad but not as good as I’d hoped. I knew going in this section needed the most work and it’s slow going. I’m not as confident as I was last week that I’ll get this revision pass done before the wee beasties are out of school for the summer. I am, however, pushing onward.

To make it accountable, I said:

  • Act One (16K) the first week
  • Act Two, part one (16K) the second week
  • Act Two, part two (16K) the third week
  • Act Three (16K) the forth week

How did working toward your goals go this week?
