Ten on Tuesday: Continuing to Learn

ToT-ButtonToday’s prompt is Ten Things (Or Subjects) You Wish You Knew More About

  1. Tarot. Yes, I know that may seem strange given the amount of Tarot on this blog but I feel I have just touched the tip of the iceberg.
  2. Gardening. I want to do more to help save on our food bill :cough: four boys (two of which are teens!) :cough: and reduce our footprint a bit.
  3. Yoga. I do it but, like Tarot, feel I’ve only touched the tip of the iceberg.
  4. Exercise. I need to learn more non to low impact exercise options. I’ve, once again, aggravated an old knee injury :sigh:
  5. Gaelic. I would love to learn Scottish Gaelic. I’ve found Irish Gaelic courses online but not Scottish.
  6. Celtic Holidays. I want to incorporate more into our family life.
  7. Celtic Traditions. I want to incorporate more into our family life.
  8. Plotting, Writing, and Editing. I want to continue to learn the process and grow.
  9. History. I’ve always been fascinated by Celtic and Native American/Canadian First Nation history and religious beliefs.
  10. Goal Setting and Time Management. This area can always improve.

How about you, what thing/subject do you wish you knew more about?

Sunday Catch Up

Crazy busy week with little to no internet time. Will attempt to catch up today in between loads of laundry and grocery shopping and general finding my house beneath the week of cleaning neglect, LOL.

I see Kait calling for Round 2 Sponsors and wish I could answer. Perhaps one of these Rounds.

In the meantime, there really isn’t anything to report today. This was not a productive week toward any of the listed goals. On the other hand, it was productive in other ways and, overall, a successful one.

ROW80LogoYearly Goals

  • I have once again registered on Goodreads to read 100 books. However, this may change as I plan to put writing before reading this year. – On Target.
  • Lose 50 pounds. I slacked off the last part of 2013, ’nuff said. – Nothing to report.

Quarterly (AKA ROW80) Goals

  • Draft the Steampunk story I attempted for NaNo 2013. Oh, and figure out a title. - This isn’t happening this Round. I haven’t been able to stay in the zone long enough to do justice to this story, even allowing for a crappy first draft. Nor have I been able to brainstorm any titles yet. – I’m thinking about joining April’s Camp NaNoWriMo because I’d really like to get this story drafted. Hopefully, the more single focus will help.
  • Read Who Are You in the Tarot? by Mary K. Greer and do the applicable exercises. – Read two chapters, no exercises yet.

Monthly Goals

  • Read, at least, one paper book. With the ease of carrying my eReaders around my poor paper books have been neglected. – Goal attained for January. Read Desire’s Edge by Eden Bradley writing as Eve Berlin. Goal attained for February. Read A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux. Goal attained for March. Read Highlander’s Curse (part of the Daughters of the Glen series) by Melissa Mayhue.
  • At least, one date night with That Man. – Goal attained for January. Goal attained for February.

Weekly Goals:

  • Spend a minimum of 3 hours per week on writing. – Not attained.
  • Maintain 3 blog posts per week. – Not attained.
  • Visit and comment on at least 12 blogs per week, 3 of which HAVE to be ROW80 blogs. – Not attained.
  • Connect on Facebook and Twitter with, at least, one non-blog post or share per week. – Not attained.
  • Maintain books read on Goodreads. – Target attained.
  • Exercise 3 times per week. – Not attained.

Sunday Summary

I’m terrible at titles, LOL. It’s been a busy week of football, fundraising, and continued single mum land.

My tackle football guy had his first game yesterday. Our team won, yay team! We’re all a wee bit crispy as a result. Gorgeous weekend with temps in the mid to high 7o’s and low 80′s but with a nice breeze so as to hide the effects of the sun until the damage is done. Definitely time to break out the sunblock!

A Week That Wasn’t

There isn’t a springy bone in my body this morning. I do not like the whole Day-Light Savings thing the Powers-That-Be force upon us. It messes up my sleep. It messes up my appetite. It messes up my schedule. No, I do not like this Day-Light Savings thing. (Channeling Dr. Seuss?)

We picked up the old broken car yesterday. It’s a rather sad addition to the garage at this point. It served us well for over thirteen years. It just never made a smooth transition to desert living.

In other news, I took a mental break this week. With all the running around and juggling of schedules and “purge and pack” there just wasn’t anything left for writing focus. And football games start Saturday, thus the balance of this Round will likely be more miss than hit. I’m okay with that because family will always come first.

I’m reading back over this, and it comes across kinda doom and gloom, however, I’m excited about the process of finding our family a home that fits our needs better. I’m excited about the opportunities opening up for us financially. But yes, I’m also reevaluating whether I have the drive to continue this writing dream.

I love the ROW80 challenge and the supportive group of people involved but I will be stepping away from Round Two.

Biting Off More Than I Can Chew?

We’re in the middle of Single Mum Land here at Casa de Barclay.

That Man is busier than a one-arm coat hanger. We’re two ships passing in the waterway. And whatever cliche you want to apply, LOL.

I seriously haven’t known if I was coming or going most of the week. What was I thinking to add house hunting and loan approval paperwork to the mix? OY.

Let’s see how this week measured up.

Another Day, Another Dollar

Out the window, LOL.

Our old beast is on life support, requiring a new engine to purr again. Our family’s priority this year is to move into a larger home so we’re parking the old car until we’ve achieved that goal. In the meantime, we must have two reliable vehicles thus yesterday was spent car shopping.

I have to say, with all that happened this week, I am pleasantly surprised with my progress this week. Here’s how it broke down.

Boys and Sports, Oh My

Having boys means a lot of my time is spent schlepping to practices and games and being the supportive spectator. Over the years we’ve done baseball and soccer, and even tae-kwon-do.

It was an easy thing while living in rural Oregon where everything was five minutes from everything else, LOL. Even with That Man traveling I was able to keep up.

Here in Vegas it’s more of a challenge meeting all the activities for all the of boys, especially during the first three months of the year when That Man is crazy busy. This will be the first season where I’m working, too. It should be interesting.

Spring football has started.

#2 has started tackle football in preparation of following his dream of playing high school football with an eye toward a football scholarship for university. Gotta love a kid with plans. His schedule is crazy busy though. Practice three nights a week and games every Saturday (once they start mid-March).

#3 and #4 will be starting flag football this upcoming week. (I’m not in a financial position to buy gear for three though #4 would probably be a great tackle player.)

All of this on top of the fact #3 is still in choir with practice every Wednesday after school and performances most Thursday nights.

How was your Valentine’s Day?

To Write, Or Not

This has been a busy week and writing was not even a blip on the radar. Sigh.

However, I did stumble on this Feelings Chart yesterday. Love the layers illustrated. A tool for the ol’ character toolbox?

Super Bowl Sunday: A #ROW80 Summary

200px-Super_Bowl_XLVIII_logoAre you ready for some football?

I’m not a huge fan but even I get into the Super Bowl. We have the Pepsi vs. Diet Pepsi field laid out the table, the snakes are staged, and the males in my house are chomping at the bit for the game to start.

I have to admit I was sucked in to the hype earlier this year with the Seahawks vs. 49ers game. I would have been thrilled with either team winning. San Francisco being the team of my childhood and Seattle the Pacific Northwest team.

We did a pool at work so I have money riding on this one, LOL

And just for Melanie, the Seahawks are gonna stomp your Broncos

I apologize for dropping the blogging ball this week. I really must work on building up that queue! Okay, on to the ROW80 part of today.
