Today’s prompt is 10 Things About Your (insert your choice of furniture here).
So here’s 10 things about my Bedroom Suite.
- My parents bought it in a garage sale the year they married.
- My parents shipped it cross country, at least once, including a ferry crossing or two, and brought it to the states from Canada.
- I claimed it the summer of ’76, rescuing it from our family garage sale.
- I’ve moved it cross country twice.
- I remember the thrill of touching the top of the highboy dresser for the first time as a child. It sparkles in my memory like a rite of passage or, at least, growth.
- I’ve watched that same thrill dance in each of the wee beasties’ eyes when they touched the top of the highboy dresser for the first time.
- Two of the four wee beasties were born on the bed embraced by its head and foot boards.
- It is a French Provincial suite consisting of head and foot boards, dresser and mirror, highboy dresser, and two night stands in a natural wood accented with gold leaf.
- It needs Maria’s refinishing magic, desperately. Barring that, money and time 🙂
- It officially became an antique in the years since I claimed it – I estimate it to be in the neighborhood of 130 years old this year.
~Sorry no picture, too much chaos here in Casa de Barclay.
I can’t say I have any piece of furniture older than 5 years old. My cross country moves have only included the items that could fit in my white pontiac G6 (still got love for you where ever you are Ghost).
That bedroom suite is the only thing I’ve held on to, made concessions for. We have an entertainment unit inherited from That Man’s parents and even he agrees it would go before the bedroom suite 🙂
Thanks for swinging by Angela.
Now that’s a story! I’m glad you saved them from your parents’ garage sale.
Re: It needs Maria’s refinishing magic
LOL! I wish we lived closer. I’d love to refinish them.
Except for the sofas, most of our furniture is old or antique.
My poor parents were trying to lessen the load for a move, LOL.
If I didn’t have wee beasties I’d fill my house with antiques. Most of our furniture becomes trampolines and jungle gyms and props for their version of WWE!
Wish we lived closer too 🙂 Thanks for swinging by Maria.
I love antiques and old furniture. Most of it is just built better. Only problem with old furniture is that the hubby doesn’t like it much. He has more modern, clean lines taste.
And no picture?? That’s just not nice! Love the story behind it though. (off to cruise internet for comparable pics to what you described :D)
The problem with a picture is the bedroom is in chaos due to pre-packing. I didn’t have time to go through my digital pictures to see if I had a suitable candidate and my physical pictures, where I know I have a few, are packed. Sorry.
That Man is more of a modern, clean line kinda guy too, but he’s a romantic in the bedroom 😉
Thanks for swinging by Mel.
